ABOUT THE FRIENDS
The Friends of the William Salt Library play a vital role in supporting the preservation of this unique and special library, which forms a vital part of Staffordshire’s documentary and printed heritage.
Through an annual programme of various social events, the Friends raise valuable funds to assist the Library in the ongoing task of preserving and conserving its collections and in the acquisition of new publications about Staffordshire. Volunteers assist in the improvement of the Library’s finding aids and in the practical task of cleaning and repackaging items from the collections.
Recent Projects have included funding:
- the rebinding of some of William Salt’s rare printed books
- the purchase of acid free, archival quality packaging materials for the manuscript collections
- the purchase of microfilm copies of the Staffordshire Chronicle from 1877-1894
- the purchase of specialist reference books which are key to interpreting Staffordshire’s past
